Dinner at Restaurant OTSY

A restaurant in the center of Tbilisi, near the Rezo Gabriadze Theater

The place draws you in with its clean interior and welcoming atmosphere. There are only 7 tables inside, and the crowd, as I often put it, has intelligence written on their faces. The menu is built around classic Georgian dishes with a European accent. It's a nice touch that you're greeted with complimentary orange-and-mint water.

What did I try?

• Georgian salad, 26₾. Peeled tomatoes topped with pkhali — a reimagined classic. Delicious, enough for two.
• Sea bass, 53₾. A large, well-cooked portion, though nothing to get excited about. Should have gone with the cheeks with mashed potatoes and Paris carrots instead (52₾).
• Crème brûlée, 20₾. Custard with vanilla and mandarin notes. Not bad.

I appreciated the friendly, prompt service, but Otsy makes it onto the recommendation list mostly for its honesty — they're not trying to keep up appearances, just doing their thing the way they feel it. I'll come back to explore other items.
