New Design for Café “Akademiya” at Sokol

The restaurant chain is already more than twenty years old, and its concept is an everyday café where you can hold a meeting or come with the whole family.
The menu has more than 100 dishes of Russian, European, Japanese, and Italian cuisine.
The chain belongs to restaurant group Semifreddo Group.

In mid-February, café "Akademiya" at Sokol, located in the "Alkon" business center, reopened with a fully renovated interior. The renovation was handled by an international bureau known for its projects in Beijing, New York, and Moscow — 88 - Jane Architecture&Design — led by designer Ellen Wang. Here's what Ellen says about the new interior:

 "We wanted to create a cohesive restaurant experience that would evoke Scandinavian design culture. It's a place where guests can comfortably dine with loved ones, or spend time with family, friends, colleagues.

Clean, elegant lines throughout the space bring a muted elegance and refinement. We used minimalism as the foundation — minimal moves, but maximally precise and deliberate ones. We rethought several traditional restaurant elements, such as waiter stations, and folded them into the overall design — they're now bigger and more convenient, adding to the sense of a warm interior rather than just serving a utilitarian function. The layout includes dining groups for different occasions: a business lunch with colleagues, a quick breakfast, a romantic dinner — guests can always find something new each time they come to "Akademiya."
We carefully selected beautiful natural materials: Breccia Ambrato marble, natural oak, and handmade ceramics. Special attention was given to custom-made furniture and lighting, to give guests precise stylistic and tactile impressions. Elements of atmospheric lighting, as an integral part of the design, are always present in our projects."
