Restaurant Anna on Bolshaya Dmitrovka.

A new bistro in the center of Moscow offers French cuisine in a homey, lively atmosphere

Restaurant Anna has opened on Bolshaya Dmitrovka. It's not just another spot with a French menu, but a space that tries to convey the very atmosphere of a Parisian bistro — light, noisy, but always cozy. Details matter here: warm light, wine racks, an open kitchen, and unobtrusive service create the sense that you've ended up in another city, where time moves more slowly and food serves as an occasion for conversation.

The restaurant quickly became a magnet for performers, artists, and anyone who values the food just as much as the setting. Cozy tables, a soft interior, and, above all, a location among theaters and old buildings did their job. It's a place people come to not just to eat, but to step out of the rhythm of the big city for a couple of hours.

The Anna team says it plainly: the idea isn't to surprise you with the dishes, but to recreate a French mood. The menu brings together recipes from different regions, from the coast to Provence. There's recognizable classics as well as options with signature touches. Everything is arranged to recall a simple lunch in Paris, where the presentation doesn't get in the way of flavor and the ingredients come first.

The menu has tuna tartare with an avocado cream, halibut roe, and an oyster sauce. Escargot come with crispy baguette toasts. Grilled octopus is served with bok choy, fennel, roasted pepper, and an orange sauce. Every dish is balanced — there's not a single ingredient you'd want to remove or add.

Meat and fish at Anna are served without unnecessary complexity too. The beef entrecôte is made with a smoked-meat-and-cognac sauce, topped with crispy onion. Black cod comes with asparagus and hollandaise sauce. There are also more traditional dishes like foie gras with spiced pear and a currant sauce. Onion soup is topped with a gruyère-covered toast. And the salmon quiche is warm, airy, and never over-stuffed.

The dessert section has crêpes suzette with orange liqueur, lemon sorbet with flambéed strawberry, and homemade chocolate truffles. They're served one at a time, and that's enough to round off the meal.

Restaurant Anna isn't a place for rushing. Here, people eat thoughtfully, discuss plays, share stories, and come back again. France here isn't for show — it's for themselves.
