On Mayakovskogo Street in St. Petersburg, gastrobistro TEYA is an intimate spot with an open kitchen, where chef Valery Poryadin builds his menu on gastrobotany, seasonal produce, and experience from Michelin-starred Scandinavian internships.
Natural materials, soft light, and nothing extra — TEYA's interior isn't trying to impress. Handmade accents, a sense of a space you could easily linger in. The open kitchen is visible from the dining room: not decor, but part of the philosophy — guests never have to guess what's happening behind a closed door.
In the opinion of our restaurant guide's team, TEYA is a place with a rare internal logic: everything here is done as though no one ever offered anything extra to begin with.
Chef Valery Poryadin leads the kitchen. His background includes internships at Michelin-starred restaurants in Scandinavia, work on Black Sea farms, and a serious passion for gastrobotany. It all adds up to an approach that's hard to call trendy: Poryadin works by feel rather than fashion. The combinations on the plate are unconventional but honest — the product isn't masked or overpowered, just allowed to be itself.
TEYA's concept is cuisine without a flag over the entrance. No references to a specific geography or culinary tradition. The menu grows out of whatever makes sense to cook right now: the seasonal palette, the team's interests, the current produce. Dishes change often — the menu keeps only what currently has both flavor and reason behind it.
The menu is small. Each item comes with a short handwritten note from the chef. It's not a marketing trick, but the team's living presence at the table. Dinner at TEYA opens with a compliment from the chef: a seasonal product in nearly its original form — a way of stating the kitchen's position right from the start.
Service here comes without distance or rehearsed lines. Guests are treated as people, not turnover units. Our secret guests gave the dinner 8 out of 10 — for consistency in the details: from the first compliment to the final dish, everything holds the same tone.
Gastrobistro TEYA on Mayakovskogo Street is a small but thoughtfully considered place for those who care about understanding what stands behind the food on the plate.
