A joint project by restaurateur Glenn Ballis and the El Copitas Bar bar team at Patriarch's Ponds — Mexican cuisine with a Moscow temperament, concept chef Marco Antonio Ferreira, and one of the city's strongest cocktail bars under one roof.
Patriarch's Ponds hasn't seen a new opening in a long time that both breaks with the usual restaurant order and fits into it seamlessly. Sangre Fresca is a Mexican restaurant on Yermolaevsky Lane, conceived precisely as an alternative: for those tired of predictable concepts who want both a full dinner and strong cocktails in one place. Concept chef Marco Antonio Ferreira handles the food; the bar is run by a Saint Petersburg team — Artem Peruk, Nikolai Kiselev and Igor Zernov — known well beyond Russia: El Copitas Bar ranked 8th on The World's 50 Best Bars list. For them, Sangre Fresca is their first Moscow address.
Our guide's team calls Sangre Fresca a spot for anyone tired of same-looking restaurants: Mexican cuisine, adapted though it is, sits here alongside some of the city's best cocktails.
The restaurant's space is split into two rooms, and the division isn't just formal — it follows mood. The first room lives loud: at its center is a nine-seat contact bar, always giving a view of what's happening in the open kitchen. The second is quieter, with tablecloths and powder-toned marble, no sense of hurry. The interior was designed by the Arch(e)type bureau: rough dark surfaces sit alongside delicate details — a glass installation overhead, organically shaped lamps, fans that create more of an image than actual cooling. There are 55 seats in total.
The menu adapts Mexican formats to Moscow tastes without losing character. The crab burrito is, judging by reviews, eaten by hand and strictly solo. The quesadilla here comes with truffle ricotta and oyster mushrooms — distinctly "Patriki" in spirit. Duck tacos are served on a corn tortilla with jalapeño aioli and crispy onion. Among the hot dishes off the grill: josper-cooked chicken served with polenta, and sea bass with tomatillo, lime and herbs. Octopus appears alongside crispy rice with corn and salsa, a combination rarely seen on Moscow menus. Guacamole with pico de gallo and tostadas is an essential starting point. Dinner closes with churros and vanilla ice cream and bitter cocoa, or cookies with boiled condensed milk and lingonberry.
Our undercover guests rated it 7 out of 10 for dinner — the kitchen holds its level, though service speed during busy hours leaves room to improve. The cocktail rating stands apart at 9 out of 10: the bar menu is built around mezcal and tequila, with around twenty labels behind the bar. The Paloma on grapefruit soda comes in two versions, with tequila and alcohol-free. The Margo cocktail combines the citrus freshness of a Margarita with the mint notes of a Mojito. "Agave Mondays" also deserve a mention — themed evenings the bar team runs regularly.
The wine list runs to around ninety labels, with a focus on biodynamic, organic and New World wines. Sparkling and rosé wines hold a special place here, chosen as the best match for Mexican spices and acidic sauces. In 2025, Sangre Fresca was named best gastro-bar by the Russian bar industry award Where2Drink, and in 2026 it made the top 5 cocktail bars according to the Russian Hospitality Awards. A Mexican restaurant at Patriarch's Ponds that takes both the food and the glass equally seriously.
