"19" is a personal project by the well-known Nizhny Novgorod chef Alexander Nikolaenko.

The restaurant's concept came about the moment Alexander found an 1898 cookbook in an antique shop.

At "19" he combined a love of unconventional local ingredients with 19th-century tradition, producing a reading of national gastronomy through a modern understanding of flavor.

The menu features more than 50 19th-century recipes adapted for today's tastes: the chef serves wild zander with oats, morels and roasted beetroot; beef stroganoff with cherry tomatoes and pickles; sturgeon alongside a rye flatbread and oven-baked sour cream with caviar. The restaurant's interior turned out stylish: light-toned furniture, textured lamps, vintage elements and live plants.
