Ugolek on Bolshaya Nikitskaya, 12, was opened by Ilya Tyutenkov back in 2013 — the restaurant that started this street's transformation into Moscow's culinary center. The concept is built on comfort food cooked on 19th-century cast-iron stoves.

Two chefs lead the kitchen at Ugolek. Brand chef Georgy Troyan, winner of the WhereToEat "Chef of the Year" award in 2024 and also the concept creator behind Severyane, was among the first to put open fire and oven heat at the center of contemporary Moscow gastronomy. Working alongside him is Sergey Lobachev, who brings more than twenty years in the kitchen, stints in France and Italy — including at the two-Michelin-star Le Jardin des Sens — and experience with major projects in Russia and abroad.

Our guide's team singles out the desserts and berry teas, along with the dim lighting and thoughtful interior that set the right mood.

The menu is built on the principle of everyday comfort: familiar, hearty dishes, with no culinary excess. The cast-iron stoves deliver a particular texture and depth of flavor that's hard to reproduce by other means. It's not about showing off — it's about food you want to come back to.

Our undercover guests rated it 7 out of 10 for dinner, for consistent food quality, attentive service, and an atmosphere where you can comfortably spend an evening without any special occasion. The same score for breakfast: the restaurant holds its level equally well at different times of day.

Over more than ten years, Ugolek has held its place as one of the anchor restaurants of Bolshaya Nikitskaya — not through trends, but through consistency: good ingredients, ovens that know how to do their job, and a team that knows why it's there.
